JULY 2004 PROFILE
"EMERGENCY"
Laurie Fish moved to Fort Worth, Texas in July of 1989, when she began her career as a flight attendant with Delta Airlines. In 1995, after several years of flying she began to get bored and looked for new challenges. She began EMT school and also purchased her first Harley. She met Jean (Blondie and Gun Runner) and Chester, and Dreamer ( Richard Snyder) through some mutual friends. She began riding with them when possible. They invited her to the Boozefighter Clubhouse several times. She began riding on every ride with the Boozefighters that her schedule would allow, her favorite being the Toy Runs. There weren't very many women riding solo at that time. She finished EMT school, Paramedic school, the Paramedic Instructors course and then joined the Burleson Fire Department. She went through six months of the Burleson Fire Academy and is currently a volunteer Firefighter/Paramedic there. Dreamer sponsored Laurie as a Boozette and gave her the name "Emergency". Through a part-time job as a Paramedic in the Emergency Room, she found out about Mercy Med Flight. It is a most worthwhile cause, transporting people that have no money, no insurance and have exhausted all of their resources. They don't charge the patient anything. Laurie said " We transport the terminally ill home to be with their families during their final days. If they need surgery that is only performed in a special hospital or if they've been in an accident while away from home, we come to their needs . It is 100% volunteer Pilots, Nurses, respiratory Therapists and Paramedics. We do several fund raisers during the year to help support the cost of operations of our Citation Jet. She added that the American Legion Riders of Post 624 sponsored a motorcycle run last August. The Boozefighters and the American Legions Riders of Post 516 , of which she is also a member , and several other ALR groups had a fantastic turn out for their first run. " We raised $2,000 for the Mercy Med Program ," `Emergency' proudly boast. 'Emergency' was asked about her riding experiences since becoming a Boozette. She explained, "I currently have my second Harley that is a 1998 Dyna Super Glide. I have ridden to Sturgis twice, Daytona once and gone to he Four Corners Rally. I have been to the Austin Rally 9 years in a row. I plan on returning to Daytona in October. I have visited several different Boozefighter Clubhouses and introduced several people to the Boozefighters, who became members and also formed new chapters. " " I wear my Boozette patch proudly and have enjoyed being a part of the Boozefighters for the last 9 years. I look forward to meeting new members, seeing old friends and finding new destinations for many years to come. RIDE HARD AND RIDE SAFE."
Through a consensus of opinions, numerous members of the Boozefighters and Boozettes felt it appropriate to select ‘Emergency’ as our July profile. She is truly a diverse individual with lots of irons in the fire. I don’t know how she does it and yet, she does even more. For example, every year she puts on a “Block Party”. The BFMC, ALR, and over one hundred friends and neighbors attend to enjoy food, beverage, and a great social time. “Sixkiller and the Boozefighter Band” performed at one of those recent events. “THERE WENT THE NEIGHBORHOOD.....A ROCK’N!” A Funny Remembrance: The phone rings, a young lady blurts out hastily....”JQ, this is Emergency, don’t your company handle flooded carpet problems?” “Sure do, what’s your name and address?” “This is ‘Emergency’ and you know where I live!” “If you’ll tell me your name maybe I’ll remember!!” “EMERGENCY”, she yells. “Don’t panic lady, I’ll get a crew out as soon as you tell me who you are and where you live!” “JQ, this is Laurie Fish, you know they gave me the road name of ‘Emergency‘. I don’t need your crew to rush out right now. My washing machine flooded the carpet a week ago and it is dry now. Can you clean it this weekend?” OH - SURE....
