JOE
AND
JIM
March 19, 2004
I introduced JOE (Cannibal & Star’s son) to the famous old Boozefighter JIM
`SMILEY’ CAMERON. I explained that Joe was really interested in the club and
its history. That in fact I fully expected Joe to become a Boozefighter when
he got old enough and that in all likelihood he would become the future
HISTORIAN.
“How
old are you,” Jim asked. “I’m 9 now but I’m going to be 10 in May.” “Well I’m
79 now but I’m going to be 80 next month,” Cameron replied. “So you know a
lot about the history of the club?” “Yep,” Joe confidently replied. “Who
started the club?” was the first question. “WINO WILLIE” was Joe’s answer.
“When?” “1946” he responded again.
Jim
Cameron got to laughing so hard at the brilliant 70 year younger man’s
answers…the rest of the test was lost. It became a regular conversation as if
there were no generation gap. And Jim Cameron can rest assured that some day
a new Historian will take pride in explaining that once up-on a time he met
the real deal. That back when he was only nine he met and talked with Jim
Cameron…an
“ORIGINAL WILD ONE”!
