“BORN TO BE WILD”

The Boozefighters started a scholarship fund many years ago to aid kids who would never receive enough financial support to pursue their educational dream.  Usually it is someone trying to go to college but in this case we are helping an eighth grader named Kristen Logan.

It gets complicated but basically 14 year old Kristen got displaced due to her mothers medical disabilities.`Fat Chuck’ and his lady Shannon (CH 39) brought Kristen back from California.

One of the first things they learned was about Kristen’s interest in music.  She loved playing the flute, but WOW are they expensive!  Fat Chuck mentioned the situation while at Verna’s café in Euless, an eatery where Blondie, Gunrunner, and many other Boozefighters’ families chow down.

Next thing you know `Bunkey’, Senior Pastor at “The Slab” (church), in which is also a lover of the musical arts, plunked down $100.00 to help get the kid a wind-pipe.  Next `Fat Chuck’ informed `Wideglide’ and some other Boozefighters that that they needed another $200.00 to get one of those good “Gemeinhardt,” that all prestigious musicians used, and it should be good enough to carry her on through college musical requirements.

A round table discussion followed and to make a long story short…the scholarship fund was taped and at the CH 69 clubhouse Kristen was presented the flute.  But there was a catch (always is – isn’t it).  In front of the whole crowd Kristen had to make a pledge.  A pledge to learn and return to play “BORN TO BE WILD.”  Kristen happily accepted.
