Pardon my French but polly wally beang bang we got dang good press again. The Freeway magazine is the top leading biker rag in Europe (such as Easyriders in the USA). This is the French issue.

Boozefighters are featured at the bottom of the cover page and an additional twelve pages inside. I never took French language in school so I’ll have to resort to an old WWII trick in order to interpret. A couple of shoots of Hennessy’s Cognac should help make the story much more clear. And it’s clear the French are proud that we Boozefighters adapted their imported three star cognac (3 stars were on the label in the 1940’s) as our back patch icon logo. Sooo I will now explain what the story says…sort’a!

Page 4 gives a brief recap of how the Boozefighters came together as vets of WWII. They formed a motorcycle club and gained infamous notoriety in Hollister July 1947. A “legende d’ Hollister and they return for the anniversaire.” (60th year)

Pages 82 thru 87 pretty well follows our history stories on this website (Archives) and our book “THE ORIGINAL WILD ONES.”

Pages 88 thru 92 explains how ten guys and two gals from Methamis, France became interested in the history of our club. `Marko’ is their leader and appreciates how the American 82nd Airborne liberated their part of France from the Nazi’s. He started collecting military historical items at age 11 and now has a museum in the up-stairs area over his bar.

Ironically now his museum includes patches, pictures, and replicas of numerous metals of honor my wife’s brother Sgt Billy Williamson contributed. He was with that 82nd battle group and communicated with Marko about it (before Bill passed away).

After researching our website and other historical information about our club Marko named his bar the “Boozefighters revenge,” in which means a coming together in French.

The story goes on to explain how Marko contacted JQ through the website and that eventually led to their becoming the Boozefighters Tribute Group (2004) and then in 2005 were allowed to be our first European Prospect Chapter. They met Original BF’er Vern Autrey in Fort Worth at the Fall National and he proclaimed them “GOOD GUYS”!

Also explained is how `Hacker’ from a California chapter made a couple of visits to France to check them out and vouched for them at the National in 2006. They were voted in as Chapter 74 and received their full patches.

On the last page it outlines their types of motorcycles (mostly old Shovelheads, Panheads and such) plus their two Boozettes (Zaza and Coco) are featured. They are truly some neat ladies and as a CH 74 requirement…ride their on motorcycles.

Thanks to Charlie Lecach for doing this story in the Freeway magazine. You did a superb job.
