NOT GUILTY

It has been a couple of weeks now since we said so long to a good friend. Wade was killed in a motorcycle accident and six hundred of us came to mourn, remember, and even laugh a little. Leading a funeral is about the only time I regret being a Chaplain. Many times I don’t have it together any more than any one else. Then came the tough question “How can a loving God do this”. That’s the one I hear the most.

Don’t get me wrong, we always need to question. If we don’t know what we believe (or Who we believe) we’ll fall for anything. That’s the shortest route to Jim Jones’s kool-aid stand, or getting your pocket picked by religion.

Sadly, some asking the tough question don’t really want an answer. It is just another tool used to continue to disbelieve that there is a God who loves them and desires to have a personal relationship with them.

Now we can talk! I just lost all who want to stay with the “I refuse to trust an unjust God” thinking. They split after the last paragraph.

For those who want an answer to the hard question here it is; GOD DIDN’T DO IT! He is getting a bum wrap. Not that The Righteous Judge needs my puny defense. He does just fine on His own. But we often don’t understand so let me illustrate the truth with this little story:

A little girl’s father was a volunteer fireman. Often when he got an emergency call he had his little girl with him. After going to many fires, the little girl asked “Daddy why does the fire truck start all those fires”? Realizing what his little girl was thinking he explained “honey the fire truck doesn’t start the fires, it just shows up to help when fires start”

Nuff said, the uninterested have already left, the seekers will find. “He that has an ear let him hear”- Jesus Christ.
