MARDI GRAS

2007

The impressive thing I’ve learned and experienced about the Boozefighters is we party BIG! There were no exceptions to that rule this time of year either.

In Nevada City, California CH 11, 6, 5, 21, 101, 3 and maybe a few more that I’ve forgot put on a really big Mardi Gras benefit party. As reported by the “QUICK THROTTLE” magazine “Nevada City gets surprise visit from Hollywood!”

The story goes on to tell about a frosty morning when the Green & White elves, better known as the Boozefighters, were getting ready to open the doors to their famous Cajun feed. But unbeknownst to them, they were about to be surprised with more than their typical crowd. The room would soon be filled with bright shining stars (quoted by `Babydoll’ the author of the story).

`Babydoll’ goes on to explain that Robert Patrick from “THE UNIT” and Ethan Embry from “THE BROTHERHOOD” along with some of their film crew rolled in on their motorcycles, led by their Boozefighter friend `Yukon’. She said it was like shock & awe to those present.

Then her story goes on to tell how this prospect chapter #101 pitched in to help Carl `Big Daddy’ Spotts (Nat’l VP) and the other BF’ers do the feed.

It’s a very good story…buy the magazine.

MISSISSIPPI

Now let’s travel across the nation to CAJUN COUNTRY. Once you cross that Mississippi River Bridge you know you’re in DIXIE. Not only that…it’s CAJUN DIXIE in that great state. Every thaaang sort’a changes pace and gears dooown a bit. It’s a touch like the “BIG EASY” all the way up to Grenada.

Those chapter #53 guys…`EG’- `Buckethead’- etc. really know how to throw a true “MARDI GRAS” party. By the time we got into Grenada we were well greeted by folks from chapters all over the states. As best I recall there were members from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio, Michigan, Arkansas, and Texas (and Mississippi of course). And a big highlight was having Original Boozefighter Vern Autrey in as our special VIP guest…all the way from California.

On Friday night Duke and I got a few key people, EG – Diamond Dave & Vern up on the CH 53 clubhouse stage and presented them with duplicate copies or the “Harley – Davidson Motor Company’s Document of Recognition.

The original document was presented to the BFMC by Bill Rodencal (H – D Restorer) during our last National meeting in Fort Worth. It states in part that it “recognizes the Boozefighters contributing to the heritage, history, and mystique of the Harley – Davidson Motor Company Enthusiasts, both present and future.”

Now I’m going to have to admit I’m not the party animal I use to be. Neither is my wife Pat nor Vern Autrey. After the GO – GO GIRLS got going strong I finished off my pickled pig lips, Vern downed his last Margarita, and Pat drove the two of us ole boozers back to the motel.

Saturday morning Vern and I met at sunrise for breakfast. Then we started touring the sights of the old town and there about. We checked out some old colonial style houses built at the end of the 1800’s, had some java at a Cajun Coffee House, checked out the old train depot, and the riverfront. As Vern said, it’s good to turn back the pages of life and see where we came from.”

Then we toured the “YELLOW FEVER CEMETERY” where we observed tombstones for people that were born as long a go as 1783. We saw that in 1878 there were about 387 people buried as victims of the Yellow Fever plague that near wiped out the whole town. They didn’t even know what it was or how to prevent it. Wouldn’t that be scary!

From there we went to the lake’s visitor center and checked out the displays and museum. We also found a café near by that sold mud-bugs (crawfish) so we loaded up a bunch and took them out to the clubhouse. Believe it or not there were some good ole redneck BF’ers there that knew how to pinch da tails and suck da heads off them mud-bugs. Da cleaned dem off da table too.

By Saturday night the party got to crank up big time again. I’ll let the pictures speak for them selves as folks send them to me. So far `STREAK’ has come through so he get’s to be the STAR!

Thanks CH 53 for a great party…JQ
